Great Economic Thinkers 2026

Back-up instructions for lesson Marx 1 (8h00 to 10h00)

E-Mail to you this morning.

Dear students

Due to some technical difficulties with Teams, it is possible that I cannot connect you all to today's classes on Karl Marx. If this is the case, please follow these instructions.

Go to the website <reesonomics.eu>  and click on 'Great Economic Thinkers' on the left. There is nothing on Moodle.

Scroll down to lesson 5 (Thursday 29 January) and open 'Back-up instructions' (this document).

From the links in the middle column:
Watch the video
Charlie Chaplin. Modern Times. Factory scene
and take notes. It might be useful to watch it twice.
Watch the video
Fritz Lang. Metropolis. Ouverture
and take notes. It might be useful to watch it twice.
Open 'Film Questions' and write down your answers to the questions.

There are three presentations. If we have no Teams, then look through the slides of the three presentations:
Presentation 1. Naé Carron. What would Marx say about current global issues such as Ukraine or Venezuela?

Presentation 2.
Camille Legal. What would Marx have to say about the increase of intranational wealth inequality in the USA?
Presentation 3. Akshay Krishna Anilkumar Swapna. What was the demographic effect of the Enclosures Acts?
If you were meant to be giving a presentation, we will sort out what to do later.

Open 'Epistemology' and follow the instructions. When asked to work in pairs, try to find someone near you who can do the exercise with you.
Look through the slides. Some of them might be difficult to understand without me explaining them. Do your best :-)
